Community Canvas Winner

Adonnis Arvelo

Washington Elementary School students participated in Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Community Canvas program. Each student received a lunchbox full of art supplies and were given time to create a piece of artwork based on a health and wellness theme.

On January 8, the student artwork was exhibited at the Allentown Art Museum for viewing and voting. At the end of the exhibit, 4th grader Adonnis Arvelo’s artwork was selected as the best by the audience and his artwork was moved on to the final round of voting.

Community Canvas is an innovative arts competition based on these health-conscious themes. The program provides Lehigh Valley elementary school students the opportunity to participate in an art show to highlight their artistic talents. All artwork is created based on health and wellness theme.

Five Community Canvas preliminary events are held from January through May. The Community Canvas Grand Finale will be held at the end of May.

Community Canvas is sponsored by Children’s Hospital at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Lehigh Valley Art Spark and Communities in Schools. The mission behind Community Canvas is to promote healthy eating habits and all-around wellness for all Lehigh Valley children. Artwork from all Community Canvas events will be displayed at the Children’s Hospital Art Gallery inside the Kasych Family Pavilion at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, as well as other facilities of LVHN.
